The Process of Making Art

FiberBronze™

LP Bronze International has developed the technology that enables the creation of statuary using the same silicone moulds used for lost wax bronze casting but at a more cost efficient level when applied to different materials. The benefit is a feature that creates a beautiful and distinctive environment that has the appearance of bronze and without being cost prohibitive and while withstanding the elements of nature.

Features and statuary are made from fiberglass which is a composite material that is mixed with metal powders on the surface. The end result is a material that has a high density and has come to be known as FiberBronze™. Fiberglass has gained significant popularity over the years because of its durability. It therefore is commonly used in the manufacture of boats and aeroplanes that are exposed extensively to the elements of nature.

Research

The starting point and critical part of the process is the initial research. Research helps to ensure that all of LP Bronze's features are developed with historical, ecclesiastical correctness and accuracy. It encompasses research and analysis in the areas of: religion, art, tradition, culture, folklore and history.

Design

Once LP Bronze International has determined the feature's story and design details, initial drawings are prepared. These drawings are shared for approval and sometimes they are rendered in their final setting. These drawings are then given to the sculptor for model production.

Modeling

Depending on the size of the final feature, various sized models are prepared. Different techniques and materials can be used including clay, plasticine, and plaster. It is also a function of its application and casting requirements. Ultimately, a full size model is made and sent to the foundry.

Casting

It is now time to cast or form the moulds. Utilizing the ancient art of lost wax casting for bronze and forming for FiberBronze™ the moulds are filled with wax and/or FiberBronze™.

Each time a feature is cast or formed, it is slightly different than the last one. This is the very essence of lost wax casting or FiberBronze™ forming. Subtle differences occur and this makes each piece its own "original" Finally, the appropriate patina is applied to each fea ture and meticulously finished with a wax or lacquer (coating).
